An avid Dogs Trust Ireland supporter has vowed to get our logo tattooed on himself if he is successful in his fundraising attempts of raising more than ten thousand euro by the end of this month.

Having adopted his dog Lurcher, Opie from us, who he has credited with getting him through some tough times, Ken Keegan is running the Dublin City Marathon in October to raise much needed funds for our charity.

Ken explains: “Myself and my wife adopted Opie as a puppy in September 2018 from Dogs Trust, and I’ve been a huge supporter of their work ever since. Opie means the world to me, and when I was going through a rough patch mentally, it was Opie that really helped me pull through. It breaks my heart to think of other dogs just like him that don’t have a home of their own yet, so I really wanted to raise some money for Dogs Trust so they can help care for more dogs while they wait to find their forever families.

While taking on the challenge of running the Dublin Marathon will be tough, I wanted to do something a bit different to get people to support my cause. I also knew I would want a reminder of my achievement, so getting a tattoo of the Dogs Trust logo seemed to tick all the boxes! Now I just need to reach my goal of €10,000 before the end of May.”

Melanie Kevelighan, PR & Communications Officer at Dogs Trust Ireland continues: "We are still seeing the fallout from the huge volume of dogs purchased during the pandemic and are sadly still being inundated with people seeking to surrender their dog into our care. So, we are blown away by Ken’s love for dogs, especially Opie and how he is prepared to go above and beyond to support us with such a novel expression of his dedication to Dogs Trust.”
