Dog friendly Easter recipes

Chocolate is highly toxic to dogs, but so are raisins which are commonly found in Hot Cross Buns. There are many common foods that are highly toxic to dogs. That’s why it’s always important to remind children that their Easter treats are just for them and when it comes to their four-legged friend, sharing is most definitely not caring.

Easter bunny mini carrot pupcakes

Ingredients

For the pupcakes

  • 60g flour
  • 1 egg
  • 60ml oil
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • 1tbsp honey
  • 2 eggs
  • 60g grated carrot
  • 120ml water

For the icing

  • 50g plain low-fat yoghurt
  • grated carrot

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 160°C
  2. In a bowl, combine baking powder and honey, and mix well 
  3. Add flour, oil, water and egg to the bowl
  4. Mix until combined
  5. Add grated carrot and mix through
  6. Divide evenly into mini cupcake pan
  7. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes
  8. Once cooled, top with a some low-fat yoghurt and sprinkle on some grated carrot

Dog cross buns

Ingredients

For the biscuits

  • 150g pumpkin puree or mashed banana
  • 60g peanut butter (xylitol E967 free)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 350g wholewheat flour
  • 50g blueberries

For the icing

  • 50g plain low-fat yoghurt

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C
  2. In a bowl combine pumpkin or banana with peanut butter, eggs, and wholewheat flour
  3. Mix well until combined 
  4. Add blueberries and mix through
  5. Wet your hands and roll the dough into small balls, then evenly spread them out on a lined baking tray, flattening the tops a little with your finger tips
  6. Bake in the oven for 18-20 minutes
  7. Once cooled, drizzle your yoghurt over the top in a cros shape

 

These recipes are a great treat and even though your dog will probably want to eat the whole batch, they should only be fed in moderation. We also recommend giving your dog less of their normal food if you are giving them one of these treats, so they're not over-fed. They will stay fresh for a few days in an air-tight container, so no need to worry about waste.
